Ruby Tuesday: The Simple Things In Life

Published by leslierich at 9:34 pm under Cards, Ruby Tuesday

Simple ThingsWhat do you do when the paper is just too pretty to cover up?  I guess you concentrate all the stamping and design into as small an area as possible.  This piece of BasicGrey Stella Ruby is one I couldn’t bear to cover.  I did want to add a little something to the card front, right side, vertical orientation, without competing with the floral beauty of the paper.  When I looked at this Hero Arts stamp I thought it would very nicely complete the sentiment begun by Stella Ruby.

The 5 1/4″ square card base is Chocolate Chip and the next layer is River Rock.  Yes, River Rock again–I so enjoy working with this color.  The sentiment panel was stamped with River Rock Linen and the sentiment, itself, is Chocolate Chip.  I punched just two corners with the ticket corner punch and distressed the opposite edge.  The 1 1/4″ circle punch allowed me to inset the shell button, tied with frayed linen thread.  The edges of most of the panels are sponged with Close to Cocoa and the top layer of the sentiment panel is raised on dimensional tape.  The ribbon is from Stampin’ Up!’s Ribbon Originals, Prep School collection.

I’m glad you could join me for another Ruby Tuesday.  I surely do appreciate your company and I enjoy the time we spend here together.  I’ll look forward to another visit again soon.  Have a wonderful Tuesday!

I can certainly see why you didn’t want to cover up this gorgeous paper. What a lovely card this makes! The sponging produces a wonderful effect, and the shell button looks like it was made to go with this paper. And I love that (almost) half circle cut into the sentiment layer to accomodate that button. Very clever. Kind of an “Inside the Box” technique. :o) Linda

Oh, this is gorgeous. I have been just staring at this piece myself - I just adore what you did with it. I actually have the vertical stamp a well - but all the loving things you do to each piece in your art is just a googol of steps “swoosh” past this beginner. I love the button and how you’ve further taken the time to tie the thread. PERFECTION!

You know I just HAD to tag you, so… “Tag, you’re it!”

  27. Linda (LSN on SCS)on 12 Jul 2007 at 6:37 pm

This is just beautiful Leslie! I know what you mean about not wanting to cover up this beautiful paper. I made myself a 6×6 book with Stella Ruby paper and I have yet to add any kind of embellishment to it (as I don’t want to cover anything up). I’ve added a little glitter to the flowers. It just needs something….I just don’t know what that something is yet.

I love the sentiment that you chose and the way you framed the button.
