Antique Buggy

Published by leslierich at 8:37 pm under Baby, Cards, Stampin' Up! projects

Antique BuggyHello, friends!  I’m sharing another baby card today.  This one uses Stampin’ Up!’s Buggies & Booties which I picked up last year (?) when it was on the retiring list.  It’s one of my favorites because I love most anything vintage.  I’m so cutting edge, aren’t I, using so many retired or old stamps?  I really do have lots of new-to-me-stamps that need to see their first ink, but I felt a great deal of pleasure in using this particular stamp for the first time.  It seems as though whenever I need a baby card, the mom to be doesn’t strike me as being the vintage-favoring type.  Consequently,  I haven’t used this set much.  It may turn out that I’m the only one who likes this card.  If so, I’ll give it to her myself.

I stamped it in Bravo Burgundy on Very Vanilla cardstock, colored it with chalks and sprayed with matte sealer.  As an afterthought I decided to do some direct to paper distressing with ink on the edges of the panels.  Since I’d already sprayed it I used Timber Brown Stazon because it worked better on the sealed surface.  I just scraped the edge of the pad on the edges of all the panels.  At first glance the panels almost appear to be torn but it’s just the ink.  I like the effect — much different from the sponging I usually do.

The paper in the background is something old and blue (circa 2001) and something new (ish) from My Mind’s Eye Signature Life series.  They’re not very baby-looking, but they have a nice vintage feel to them.  The ribbon is SU!’s kraft taffeta.

I’m going to cozy up with a movie and cookies now.  This was my first day back at work after vacation and I’m feeling the need for cookies.  I hope you’ve enjoyed this early part of your journey into 2008.  I’ll see you again soon!

Stamps:  Buggies & Booties

Paper:  Vintage Violet, Very Vanilla, Naturals Ivory, old Keeping Memories alive blue and MME Signature Life designer papers

Ink:  Bravo Burgundy, Timber Brown Stazon

Accessories:  Stampin’ Pastels (soft chalks) ribbon, Scotch brand dimensional mounting tape, mat pack and piercer

OMG I get the first comment? Leslie your card is just beautiful. I really wanted this set, but didn’t get it. I LOVE seeing cards being done with this set and your design is stunning. Jennifer :)

Love this, Leslie!!! I have always admired that stamp set and almost bought it a dozen times — but, never did!!! It is probably the most gorgeous baby set ever made — IMO!!! And I love your card — love the simple layers and all the distressing you did with the ink — truly a lovely baby card!!! TFS!!!

I love this so much. I’m a vintage girl, too. Do you like the Father’s Day image in the new Stampin’Up! cattie? The old truck in the field? I just love the image but not sure of a proper sentiment with it. Anyway, back to your card - fabulous and I’m sure that both the giver and the recipient will love it.

No, you’re not the only one who loves this card! I especially like the way you “aged” it with the brown around the image and the background papers. Beautiful!

GORGEOUS! I like Vintage, but don’t do it much because I don’t think I do it well. You have totally captured it here!

Oh My I can’t imagine someone not snatching this one up quickly, I just love it myself but maybe I have more of a Vintage love. Beautiful!

I love the fact that you are using old sets! I think we all get caught up on what’s new, that we neglect the sets we already purchased. (Or maybe, I am just talking about me…..)

Absolutely gorgeous baby card Leslie! Love all the coloring/shading you did. I think that there are a lot of people out there who love vintage, especially when it comes to babies! I know that I used vintage type items to decorate my nursery for my son (and everyone who saw it, loved it).

I think this might be the most beautiful baby card I’ve ever seen. You are incredibly talented and this card looks like it took an enormous amount of effort but I bet it really didn’t take you all that long. Thanks for all the inspiration!

This is so beautiful! I was never into baby cards since my gang was older, but now as many are turning into grannys… This remind me of my old favorite - Flavia watercolors. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you Leslie!! How I have missed the vintage look and you do it oh so well! I also love to see classic retired sets still being used for great art work. It justifies me storing them as well. Newer isn’t always better, eh? Love everything you did here! Gorgeous!

I am in love with this card! You do vintage beautifully. I think I may have to try the burgandy stamping with the chalk coloring–it is really lovely.
