Brown Bird

Published by leslierich at 11:07 pm under Cards, Stampin' Up! projects

This is a card I made over the weekend – just trying to be certain I use this Always set before it gets scooted to the side or buried under other new sets.   It’s a rare application of self discipline.  From among my new Stampin’ Up! sets I selected this one to mount first and I hope to make a few cards with it before moving on to the next one.

Always Brown Bird

There’s not much in the way of fancy coloring or shading on this card, just a lot of fun parts all put together.  I pictured this as a somewhat elegant set but I thought I’d see if it would work in a more casual environment as well.  Its variety of stamps seem to let it go either way.  Do you see the swirly vine on the Linen Prints designer paper there on the right side of the card?  It matches part of the pattern on the bird.

The punched flower circles and the cut out flower are all parts of the lighter side of the set.  The larger flower was stamped in Cameo Coral and colored with my Close to Cocoa marker.  All the flower petals were glazed with my Sakura clear glaze pen.  I think you can see it a little bit in the photo.  What doesn’t show is the sparkle of Cinnamon Stickles in the center of each flower, including the flower on the bird’s breast.  Very pretty in real life!  The card base is Chocolate Chip, although it looks rather dark in the photo.  The only grounding of the bird is a little sprinkling of Itty Bitty Backgrounds.

I hope to share more of my new Flourishes projects next, before I pick up where I left off with this set.  I’ll see you again soon!  Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Very pretty! I think you mixed the elements together well. Good eye, finding that pattern in the Linen Prints! Nice touch with the IBB stamp, too. It’s just the right amount. Did you know that Inkadinkado has some new stamps out that would go with the bird SO well. Lindsey has some on her ebay store and are tempting me so badly!

Very pretty card! Even though I am soooo not a bird person (they wake me up in the mornings - not good!!), this card is beautifully done. Love the colors you chose.

I just adore this bird! So far I’ve resisted ordering it, because I always love things like this but then never use them - I’m more drawn to things I can color when I’m actually stamping. But I’m worried if you play with this more I’ll have a hard time resisting this set!! I love how you pulled this card together - the colors are wonderful! Also love your ribbon treatment with the hardware.

What a fun card!!! I love this set and just love what you did with it here!!! I love how you so simply grounded your bird — something I NEVER think to do — I must do that with the little speckles — how cool!!! Thanks!!!

I’ve been trying to figure out what to do with this bird. You used it beautifully. It is rather large, so now that I’ve seen your layout, it is giving me ideas. This is gorgeous!!!

I love this one! The play of these colors together is wonderful! Love the belt too and especially that cut-out flower image from the set! Terrific!

This is such a sweet and charming card, and it definitely shows off the versatility of this set. You made me look at the “parts” of it in the catalog to refresh my memory. I will be ordering it very soon. Nice touches with the stickles and glaze pen. Linda
