Kitchen Sink Hibiscus

Published by leslierich at 2:00 am under Cards

I’m very honored this month to be a guest designer for Kitchen Sink Stamps.  Was I excited when I received that email?  Yes!  Maria’s images are beyond beautiful and so intricately designed she’s made it easy for stampers of all skill levels to create beautiful cards.  I’m thrilled to have this opportunity to share a few with you.

Hibiscus Salmon June08

For this card I used the large and medium-sized flowers and leaves from the Hibiscus set.  I did a little simple masking to create this flower cluster and, once finished, I shaded around it with soft chalks.

What I find most fun about using the KSS flower images is choosing colors.  So many variations for creating custom blooms!  The sky’s the limit with a hibiscus.  Oh, my!  I looked them up — decisions, decisions!  This flower is stamped in four steps:

Pretty in Pink + Apricot Appeal + Cameo Coral + Ruby Red = Gorgeous!

The leaves are River Rock, Certainly Celery and Old Olive.  The shading is so subtle in some areas it’s hard to imagine the difference it makes, but leave a step out and you can see just how much thought was put into the stamp’s design — amazing!

I’m looking forward to sharing more KSS again soon.  I’m glad you could stop by today!

  • Stamps:  KSS Hibiscus
  • Paper:  River Rock textured, So Saffron, Whisper White
  • Ink:  Pretty in Pink, Apricot Appeal, Cameo Coral, Ruby Red, River Rock, Certainly Celery, Old Olive, Chocolate Chip
  • Accessories:  Ribbon, ticket corner punch, spray matte sealer (so chalk won’t rub off), Scotch brand foam mounting tape

Since discovering your site, I’ve become a great fan of yours and enjoy viewing your creations….many of which I’ve attempted to duplicate. But today’s hibiscus card has left me blown away. I had to go outside to look at all the hibiscus bushes in my yard and the neighbors. Tho I’ve seen them all my life, your hibiscus on paper radiated its beauty which caused me to study the real ones closely. Now whenever I see hibiscus flowers it’ll remind me of you. Who’d guess the power of transmission from your home to across the sea. Aloha.

  43. Linda Bullardon 09 Aug 2008 at 9:42 am

Wowza!!! Gorgeous color choices, Leslie! Congrats on being a guest designer. Maria was very smart to ask you. I’m with you on how amazing these Kitchen Sink stamps are. Genius designs. They are so addictive for trying out different color combinations. I didn’t want to put the Hydrangea set away because I kept trying different combinations. I did have to purchase more acrylic blocks so I didn’t have to keep changing stamps during the process, which helped a lot. And they just released a whole new batch of stamp sets. Yikes! Linda

Leslie, this card is just stunning, I came across it today in the gallery at Kitchen Sink Stamps. You made this card while I was finishing my last month on the Dirty Dozen, that’s the only excuse that I can give that I missed this gorgeous beauty. I’m sitting here in amazement at your talent with these stamps. You go Girl!
