Long-Stemmed Rose

Published by leslierich at 2:00 am under Cards

Amethyst Rose Jul08Today I’ve used my Kitchen Sink Stamps Hearts & Roses again.  I’m a little bit awestruck over how realistic the stamps in this set are.  There are four steps to this rose.  You begin with a “blank” that doesn’t look like much of anything, but progressively darker layers yield amazing results.  Anyone can make this rose with no coloring skills whatsoever.

To stamp the rose, I used Stampin’ Up! classic inks, starting with Almost Amethyst.  The second step is Lavender Lace.  The third step is Elegant Eggplant stamped off once — ink up the stamp, stamp once on scratch paper and then on the image.  For the fourth step I used Basic Black.  I hardly use this ink anymore because of its purplish cast but in this case it was just what I needed.  The leaves are done in three steps — Mellow Moss, Always Artichoke and Basic Black.  Shading around the image and panel edges was done with a sponge dauber and Almost Amethyst ink.

The card base is a pre-made 4 1/2″ x 6″ card — a very pale amethyst with a slight texture to it.  Nothing beats having designer paper in the exact shade to match the image so that’s when I love to stamp my own background.  This Amethyst stripe is a single stamp from the Plaid Plus set.  It was just the right size for grounding my main image panel.

Here’s a close up of the rose.

I hope you all have a happy Friday and a great weekend.  I’ve got a busy one coming up — places to go and people to see.  Somehow I’ll need to squeeze in some stamping and gardening, too.  Take care!

  • Stamps:  Hearts & Roses, Plaid Plus — both Kitchen Sink Stamps
  • Paper:  Pre-made card, Whisper White, Almost Amethyst
  • Ink:  Almost Amethyst, Lavender Lace, Elegant Eggplant, Basic Black, Mellow Moss, Always Artichoke
  • Accessories:  Offray Ribbon, ticket corner punch, Scotch brand foam mounting tape

Wow, Leslie, another beautiful composition. You are giving me the push I need to use this set.

Wow, your rose is just beautiful! I don’t have that stem in the set I have…it’s just the 3-step rose!! Isn’t it amazing how realistic they look. My son used to buy his girlfriend (now wife) lavender roses and they were beautiful. I had never seen that color before. Come to think of it, I don’t think she’s had any for about 9 years now (how long they’ve been married)! I thought I taught him better than that! LOL

That’s it! It’s settled. I’m buying this Hearts and Roses stamp set. Of course chances are slim I’ll be able to produce anything remotely as lovely as your creation, but I can dream. TFS.

Oh Leslie this rose looks like it should be in a vase!!! Just perfectly colored! I will be so glad when my computer gets fixed and I can start posting again. I feel like my right arm has been taken away…I just received the new stamps from Flourishes and cannot wait to ink them up…what beautiful images, as always. If you lived near me, I would ask to come take coloring classes with you!!!

This is so gorgeous and realistic, Leslie!! I really appreciate you giving the color sequence, as this is one of the reasons I don’t do the step stamping all that much. Thank you!!

Beautiful rose! I love the colors you used and wouldn’t have thought of using Basic Black. The ribbons are the perfect touch.

  24. Tammy Hershbergeron 25 Jul 2008 at 7:13 pm

This is beautiful, Leslie! I had forgotten how that Basic Black can have a violet hue to it! It’s perfect for your rose! (Reminds me of a hydrangea that Julie Masse did in greens, but the 4th layer was stamped with Vintage Violet!) We’re so glad to have you playing with us in the Kitchen this month!

Oh my goodness that is just amazing, that looks like it could be a photo that you just manipalted the colors, so very pretty, love the row of ribbons too, it adds such softness to it!

  32. Linda Bullardon 26 Aug 2008 at 3:14 pm

Well! Naturally, this is even more stunning in person, and I’m so happy it’s all MINE!!! What a nice dramatic touch using the Basic Black for the fourth step, especially since it does have that purplish tendency. And those pretty ribbon bows made it across the country just fine. Lovely stamping on the inside and the evelope too. It’s perfect in every way. Thank you so very much, Leslie, my friend. :o) Linda
