The Card That Defied Making
Finally…I finished the card that didn’t want to be made. We went toe to toe in a couple of lengthy matches but in the end I wrestled it down and pinned it.
In a previous post I mentioned I’d made a frightfully dull version of this card. In fact, this is the fourth version of the main image. I just couldn’t get happy with it! There was nothing to be done but start over from scratch. Still, when I finished this I thought it doesn’t look much like a celebration. But then, there are raucous celebrations and quiet celebrations and I guess you can see which kind this would be. It was almost too quiet, though, so I added the Artful Collage Prima to perk it up a bit. It’s still very restrained but soft rather than dull, I think (I hope). Anyway, it’s in the mail now so I hope she likes it.
There’s not much of anything to explain about how I did this card, which makes it all the more puzzling as to why I had such a difficult time with it. Some things must remain a mystery. The card recipe is listed below. Have a wonderful day!
- Stamps: Upsy Daisy (Stampin’ Up!)
- Paper: Soft Sky, Whisper White textured and plain, Wild Wasabi, retired SU! designer paper
- Ink: Soft Sky, Wild Wasabi
- Accessories: SU! Ribbon, eyelets, Prima, Rain Dot (in flower center), mat pack and paper piercier, Scotch brand foam mounting tape

Still, such a beautiful card. I love that image. This card is very soft and peaceful. (Even if you did have a wrestling match with it.)
I’m sorry you struggled with this, but in the end…you’ve turned out a gorgeous card!! I love the colors, and I think that Prima is a lovely addition!! Beautiful papers, and that daisy silhouette is one of my favorites of SU new sets!!
It’s really pretty! Great job kickin’ it’s butt!
I would say you DEFINITELY won the battle! Beautiful card, Leslie!
For a card that defied making, you certainly pulled it off in the most elegant way!!! I love the colors and the design of this lovely card
I love your description of making this card and TOTALLY relate! I think it’s an absolutely lovely card and you should be proud of it - especially that you whipped its butt! I love the color combo and I’m definitely going to have to get that upsy daisy set - this cinches it!
This turned out very pretty. I really like this stamp and need to get it while still on sale (I think until the end of the month.) Your colors are a great choice and I love your touch with your ribbon. Great card!
Beautiful, so soft and pretty.
Funny how inanimate objects can win at times…I have battles with cards quite often and it always feels good when you have “won”.
I love the soft colours and would be delighted to receive it myself.
Very pretty card, soft and quiet, like a perfect, calm summer day! If I were receiving it, I would be very pleased…isn’t it funny how hard we can be on ourselves at times!
Leslie, it’s gorgeous! You must be in a funk and are trying to stifle your artistic efforts! Love it, the colours, the strips of DP, eyelets and flower…beautiful. Even it you don’t like it, at least it’s not purple LOL!
Subdued but beautiful! I think the flower is the perfect pick-up for the soft colors! I love the piercing and the eyelets you added!
I would say you won the tussle. A soft, serene card…very pretty.
I think it is lovely and I love the colors!
Well your efforts paid off! It is certainly gorgeous!
LOVE IT!!! Funny how we wrestle with something so much and we’re still puzzled by it; but others can see great beauty in it. It’s gorgeous!!
Leslie, this is a gorgeous card! Love the colors and embellies!!
Well in the end…it turned out simply lovely : ) ! I’m so glad to hear that one of my stamping heros (that’s you) has fighting matches with cards now & then. I still lose a a fair number of my battles, but it’s getting better…I don’t give up as easily, lol! Great to pop over and see all your beautiful creations. Always an awe-inspiring visit
It is beautiful and soft. Well worth your effort!
such pretty stamping and layering, like the piercing and the eyelets too!
A very soft and pretty card! Love all the elements!
This is darling, Leslie — it surely does not look like you struggled — LOL!!! I love that paper pack from SU and I have been tempted to get that stamp, but so far have not. You did wonderful job on this fun card — TFS!!!
Great you stuck with it Leslie! The end results are wonderful! Deb
As for me - I love this card! The colors are so soft! Love the papers! Flower in the corner and eyelets really makes this card gorgeous!
I was thrilled to find this beautiful card in my stack of mail yesterday. Just home from our 1 month long trailer camping trip. I know so well how some cards are so difficult to finish, but I love the results of your efforts Leslie. Thank you so much of thinking of me on my birthday my friend. Nancy
