Stamp Simply Celebrates! Joining in on the Fun

Published by leslierich at 10:30 pm under Candyland, Cards, Other Fun Stuff

This is the second day of our 12-day party and we’re just getting warmed up!  Sharon was so excited about hitting 1,000,000 views on her blog, she wanted to say “thank you” to her viewers with a celebration — so she asked her Stamp Simply Team and some of her blogging friends to help make it really special — for all of you!  See an overview of the details here.  I hope you’ll be able to join in on the fun — try some challenges, get inspired, or just get lucky with some of the many blog candies that are being offered.

If you’d like to participate in any of the challenges at any time, you do not need a blog.  You can upload your creations to Splitcoaststampers, for instance.  That would be awesome, so we can see them all together in one place!  Just be sure to use the Keyword SSC08 for any uploads for this event so we can all find and enjoy them easily.  If you upload to any other online gallery, or to your blog, be sure to link back to the original challenge post so the hostess can find your entry.  It’s such a kick to see them all!

  • Today, you’ll find blog candy at Becky’s and Sharon’s blogs.
  • Becky also has a wonderful project to share.
  • Darlene has a challenge for you, and it’s one I think you’ll enjoy during this busy (and expensive) holiday season.
  • And be sure to check my post from yesterday to see if there’s anything you missed!

I played along with Darlene’s challenge today – a Christmas postcard.  Only 27¢ to mail it, no layers or chunky stuff — just a picture.  I thought that sounded great!  She’ll give you all the details here.

Santa Postcard Dec08

I immediately envisioned “vintage” when I learned of Darlene’s challenge and I thought this old Stamps Happen image would be perfect for it.  I absolutely loved creating this postcard!  It seemed somehow easier, despite the intricate detail of the stamp.  I knew that once I’d created my main image, I was done!  I didn’t have to come up with a layout or embellishments for it.  I could put all my creative energy into the stamping and painting of my mini-canvas.

I just happened to have a little tablet of these Strathmore 140 lb cold press postcards.  They’re printed on the back just like a postcard, but that’s not required by the Post Office.  Really, all you need is a vertical line that separates your greeting from the address, and a 27¢  postage stamp in the upper right-hand corner.

  • I stamped the main image in Jet Black Stazon and watercolored with Stampin’ Up! inks, including the background shading.
  • I stamped a border of Stampin’ Up!’s Print Pattern background on the right edge of the postcard, with a second stamping slightly off-set from the first.
  • I stamped the little corner flourishes from Flourishes’ Siberian Iris set in the right-hand corners, and a sentiment stamp from Stampin’ Up!’s Glad Tidings in the lower left corner.
  • I scraped the surface of my Timber Brown Stazon pad along all the edges of the panel to create a border of sorts.
  • Finally, I sprayed three coats of matte sealer over the image to protect it during mailing.

Gosh, this was fun!  You can see more postcard samples by these folks:

I hope you enjoy the challenge!   Have a great day!
