Baby Boy, Baby Girl

Published by leslierich at 2:00 am under Baby, Flourishes

RockAByeBlueFeb09Without a doubt, baby cards are some of my absolute favorite cards to make, so I felt not one moment’s hesitation when my friend asked me to make baby cards for her two daughters.  Yes, two daughters; they’re each expecting in April —  a boy for one and a girl for the other.  How happy could a grandma be?

I decided to use the same set for each card, and paper piece the images for an applique effect.  This is Flourishes’ Rock A Bye set — pure baby sweetness.  I traced the moon’s features and along its edges with a Prismacolor marker in Muted Turquoise, then went over that with the Colorless Blender to soften the color.  It’s a very subtle effect that makes a big difference.  The baby’s head and hands are colored with Pale Peach and blushed with Deco Pink.  I traced the letters of the sentiment, also, but did not use the Colorless Blender on them.  The moon and baby are popped up on foam mounting tape.

To heighten the effect of the Cuttlebug embossed background, I sponged white pigment ink directly from the pad to the paper, and sponged around the edges, as well.

Stamps:  Rock A Bye  Paper:  Brocade Blue, Daisy d’s designer paper  Ink:  Ranger Distress Walnut, Craft White  Accessories:  Ribbon, button, linen thread, tag punch, Spellbinders oval dies, Cuttlebug Diamonds in the Rough embossing folder, Scotch brand foam mounting tape

RockAByePinkFeb09This one is all sweet baby girl in pink and white, using SU!’s Candy Lane designer paper.  Since I was paper piecing, I took the opportunity to tilt the moon’s face at a bit of an angle.  As with the first card, I highlighted the moon’s features with a marker, and sponged white on the Swiss dot background.  The scalloped corner punch is something old by McGill.  I’d forgotten about this punch but, gosh, it’s cute and I’m pretty sure I’ll be using it again soon.

Stamps:  Rock-A-Bye  Paper:  Pink Pirouette, Neenah Classic Solar White, SU! Candy Lane DP  Ink:  Ranger Distress Walnut Stain  Accessories:  Ribbon, pearls, button, McGill corner punch, oval punch, lace border punch, Scotch brand foam mounting tape

Computer update: My desktop computer is still not usable, but I now have a notebook set up in my stamp room.  I spent all weekend on this computer stuff and I wish I could say it’s been fun.  Getting used to the feel of the keyboard on this little unit is an adventure in itself.  Everything has been very slow going and I’ve run into a few snags.  I have not yet retrieved any data from my other computer, so I’m starting out brand new.  Someday I hope to get back to my regular routine or, perhaps, a better routine.  Thanks for being such a great support group while I set myself to rights.

If I can get some stamping done, I’ll be back to share that soon.  At any rate, I’m wishing you a very fine day and lots more where that came from!  Take care!

Leslie - congratulations on the new notebook! I know what you mean about the odd keyboard, but you can plug a regular keyboard into the laptop with the USB cable. I adore these two baby cards. They’re the sweetest! I love the gentle white sponging on the blue and the moon’s color on the pink. These melt my heart.

I absolutely adore these two cards!!! They are so precious! Even though there’s no one I can send a baby card to, right now, I need this set :) Thanks for sharing these lovely cards - definitely brought a smile to my face.

Good luck with your new computer!

Adorable cards, I love doing baby cards as well! These will be perfect for her daughters, she will love them!

  11. Kraftyaunton 02 Mar 2009 at 6:55 am

Gorgeous designs for both cards… absolutely fabulous! I’m sure the recipients will treasure these cards and store them aways as keepsakes! I have drawers full of babystamps but not these! I’ll definitely be adding them to my collection!

P.S. I can appreciate how frustrating it is to try typing on a laptop. Have you considered getting a keyboard and mouse that have the USB connector (it’s the flat style plug instead of the round one normally found on a deskto? so that you just plug these in, and key away like normal!! No more teeny keys and little red toggle buttons to try and move the cursor around!

Both are so very sweet Leslie!!

  16. Lenoriaon 02 Mar 2009 at 7:57 am

Leslie, these are both so sweet! I think you are doing an amazing job with your emergency backup computer. I too use a separate keyboard and mouse for my laptop when I have to use it. I thought it would be such a great investment when I bought it - but I actually hate to have to use it especially without the extra keyboard!

Leslie: I love these cards….this is the perfect set for baby cards….I share your pain….I am currectly using a salvaged laptop at home with a teeny screen and I hate the keyboard. My old desktop went berserko and died on me…..I can’t wait to save up for a new one…..I just cant deal with that keyboard and no mouse…..

Both of these are so beautiful! I don’t comment often, but I do stop by regularly because I have to get my eye candy or I’d go into withdrawals. ;) Your coloring is always spectacular and every card is so special. I just love your work! On the baby boy card, I really like how you highlighted the embossed diamonds on — really sets it off. And on your precious baby girl card, your double doily lace border is stunning! Love the touch of the pearl ‘earrings’ too. ;) tfs
