One Stamp Wednesday — Lightweight Cardstock

Published by leslierich at 1:18 am under Cards, One Stamp Wednesday

BirdsOnBranchMar09Hello!  Happily, I made it back for One Stamp Wednesday, despite ongoing computer issues.  I’ve not yet recovered anything from the hard drive on my desktop so I’m starting out fresh.  In some aspects it’s a little bit fun — rather refreshing — but it’s also…how shall I put this…a pain in the neck.

Speaking of refreshing, I’m feeling a need for cheerful, fresh, Spring-colored cards, as well as something simple and quick, in light of my present circumstances.  These Inkadinkado birds were easy coloring with Prismacolor markers, and the layout is clean and easy, also.  To insure it stayed within the 42¢ postage boundaries I used lightweight cardstock for layering.  It was the perfect opportunity to dip into the many wonderful colors of CTMH cardstock I’ve had on hand since I first discovered the joys of stamping.  What a delight it was to indulge in a whole other palette of colors!

Assuming CTMH cardstock hasn’t changed over the years, it’s much lighter weight than Stampin’ Up! or PTI, for instance (both favorites of mine), which makes it excellent for layering.  Another great lightweight cardstock is Memory Box, which I’ve purchased at Ellen Hutson’s.  Both CTMH and Memory Box come in a fabulous array of colors — mouthwatering, really.  CTMH is colored on both sides, and Memory Box is colored only on one side, but because of the white core, they can both be sanded to allow that white core to show through the surface.  I love the effect!  So that’s what I did here — I sanded the blue and green layers for a softened, distressed appearance.

I added one little panel of Frances Meyer gingham paper, which recently surfaced in my stamp room when I was looking for something else — you know how that goes…  The main image panel is raised on foam mounting tape, and the flower (purchased as is at my local scrapbook store) is on a pop dot at the same level as the main image.  As always, I lined the inside right of the card with a panel of white, and a cardstock sheet will be placed over the front of the card in the envelope — still only 42¢.

I hope you enjoyed today’s card and don’t mind my hastily written post.  I also hope this photo is okay.  Everything looks so extremely sharp on my little laptop…  I had to revert to my older camera, too… it’s been one thing after another — a field trip of discovery… new photo editing software… WiFi…  I must say, though, as I sit here with my blog on my lap, feet up, eased back in my recliner after a busy day at work, I’m thinking it’s not all bad…  Enjoy Life’s moments!  Have a wonderful day!

Love the spring look. Almost looks country-ish to me. Love the colors. Sorry you’re having issues. My laptop died yesterday and is in seeing the doctor. I may have to buy a new one if the motherboard’s fried.

Sorry to hear about your computer issues…been there…done that…and didn’t like it! Have you tried Spinrite…great program to get data off hard drives. Anyway, I LOVE this card…so spring-like and beautiful! I also have a bunch of CTMH paper from years ago that I love using for the reasons you mention. Thanks for sharing another beauty with us…and take a breath and enjoy the rest of the day!

I love your card - that image of the birds is really fun! Being able to sand the CTMH cardstock is one of my favorite features of that paper! I just posted a card myself this morning on which I used that technique. And by the way, your picture looks fine!

Your Inka birds look beautiful!! I love your light springy colors, and how you’ve distressed the papers. (The CTMH papers I have are pretty light weight, and they are no more than a year to a year and a half old). I love your pretty flower embellishment as well!!

Such delightful, happy birds and design! Makes for one very pretty Springtime card! I know– I just had to change computers as well…it is a bit of a pain, though nice to have a newer, quicker model!
