A Horse Lover’s Birthday

Published by leslierich at 2:00 am under Cards, Stampin' Up! projects

I had to borrow this Stampin’ Up! Bareback set to fulfill a friend’s request for her daughter’s birthday card.  I try to have a well-rounded stamp collection, but this time the request was for either horses or turtles, and I have neither.  I do have one turtle stamp but it just didn’t seem quite right.  So, horses it is!

Bareback1May09

I did 100% stamping on this card (no designer paper) and thoroughly enjoyed it.  All stamps and supplies are from Stampin’ Up! except the ribbon slide, which is one of Flourishes’ new Finishing Touches.  Flannel Plaid and Just Jeans are two of SU!’s most practical background stamps and, sadly, both retired.  In fact, I believe all the stamps I used are retired.  I’m not sure about Baroque Motifs.  I really can’t keep track anymore; they come and go so quickly.

All coloring was done with Prismacolor markers on watercolor paper, except the sky, which is watercolored.  The card is 5 1/4″ square.  I’ve got lots more stamping to do — running behind, as usual — so I need to rush off, but the card recipe, below, provides a complete listing of supplies used.  Have a happy day!

Stamps:  Bareback, Flannel Plaid, Just Jeans, By Definition, Baroque Motifs, Toile Blossoms, Warm Words  Paper:  So Saffron, Certainly Celery, Whisper White, watercolor  Ink:  Palette Umber, So Saffron, Certainly Celery, Brocade Blue, Bashful Blue (sky), Prismacolor markers  Accessories:  Polytwill ribbon, ribbon slide, Spellbinders dies (for cutting the image panel and mat), Scotch brand foam mounting tape

Beautiful card! The colors are perfect—very relaxing as the horses seem to be–and the little metal embellishment makes me think of their bridle…Thanks for sharing! Blessings, Sharon

Another stunning card! This is awesome. Not only did you color it beautifully but I love that it is ALL stamped. You know you’re making me want those retired stamps. I love the ribbon slide as well. I think it is Gina K that has a new “western” set that has horses. Jami on our Copic DT is using one of them for the challenge this time. ….just in case you want to add some horses to your repetoire. This is GORGEOUS!

What a great card for a horse lover. Like all the stamping-the plaid and denim look great together with the swirls. Reminds me of a KY. bluegrass scene. Pretty.

Wow, Leslie! You did a fantastic job on this card. I love how you created a patterned paper look with a combo of different background stamps. I love the simplicity and subtleness of the layout yet it showcases those beautiful horses grazing on the grass. A snippet of the Toile Blossoms adds some elegance on the card too. LOVE IT!

Just beautiful and thanks for pointing out no DP. I’m so used to it I wouldn’t have noticed all the stamped details as much. This is the style of stamping when I began and I do miss those intricately stamped cards. They really raised the bar and you were one of the gals that did that on SCS. Eye candy for sure!!!
