Remember Stella?
If you’ve been on this blog journey with me for the last couple of years, you may remember Stella. In case you’re wondering, though, the Stella to whom I refer is Stella Ruby — BasicGrey Stella Ruby designer paper. I purchased a whole 12 x 12 pack of this paper in early 2007 and it immediately became a favorite. In an effort to use, rather than simply admire this paper, I decided at that time to begin a weekly feature called Ruby Tuesday. Every Tuesday I posted a card or project using my Stella Ruby paper. I did that for nine months…until the Christmas season got the better of me and I decided to take a little break, which turned into a very long break from Stella. As in… I never did pick up where I left off.
This Stampendous floral image is one I colored and set aside all that time ago, intending to use it for my next Ruby Tuesday card which, as I’ve established, never happened. I’ve shuffled past it many times in my image scrap basket, until today, when I finally decided to turn it into a card. I thought it only fitting to pair it with Stella Ruby.
I colored the image very simply with Stampin’ Up! markers, made the layout with the help of a 1 3/8″ square punch (great for scraps), and added a favorite Hero Arts sentiment. All of these stamps and supplies have been with me for a very long time, but I love them as much today as ever.
Together, Stella and I have made 30 cards, created a card tote, and altered two notebooks, a pencil holder, and an oatmeal box. Stella is still going strong. My goodness, how does one ever use up all that paper? She’s since been joined by other collections, all of which I store in a cabinet, much as any collector carefully packs way their treasures and brings them out for an occasional look.
There’s something about Stella’s colors and patterns that always set well with me, and I enjoyed spending a little time with her today. For the time being, she’s back in the cupboard… I wonder how she’ll appeal in another year or so.
Thank you so much for your time today. Have a wonderful rest of the week!
Stamps: Stampendous Daisy Chain, Hero Arts sentiment Paper: Always Artichoke, So Saffron, Whisper White, BasicGrey Stella Ruby designer paper Ink: Palette Noir, SU! This is a beauty of a card and way to go… on all those uses for a 12 by 12 pack! That is resourceful!!! And, to think, you are still going strong!
So pretty Leslie, wonderful paper.
Isn’t it wonderful when a pp design speaks to us for the long haul. Too often, I buy pp, hoard it for a year or two, then wonder, “What was I thinking?!?!” Basic Gray really does have staying power!
Your card is lovely, and I especially love how you colored the flowers. So pretty!
So pretty, Leslie!!
Loved reading this post almost more than enjoying the beauty of the card.
I Remember your Ruby Tuesday feature very well! and I enjoyed it! Love love this card too! Very very pretty!
Of course I remember Ruby Tuesday!! And I loved it! So nice to see you pull out the collection again with this beautiful card!
Leslie, I enjoyed reading this post. What a fun re-visit for you AND for us. The card is beautiful and you inspired me to “be faithful” to some of the papers I really love. Stella really has pleasing colors. TFS! Hugs,
Beautiful Leslie!!
I love Stella and still have a stash. Has she been around that long? How time flies.
Is there a way to access the cards you made with her. That was before I was following your blog.
Stella Ruby is my favorite paper! I just love it and I have a small stash of it also. Just yesterday I found some single sheets of it at my local Stamp store and picked up 5 more sheets of it. I just might have to return there and buy out the rest before it’s gone. I love the black and reds sheets- what a drama queen I must be! Keep pulling it out because we love seeing it and yes, I have finally talked myself into using it for a project for some of my galpals.
I love it when my favorite bloggers tell about stash that they remembered to use lately. I get so excited when I open a drawer and find … Oh I remember that…it would be perfect for this next card. Thanks for sharing !!
Oh my goodness, what a happy day! I adored your Ruby Tuesday posts and I’m thrilled to see another Stella Ruby card from you today. You make the prettiest cards and this one is just fabulous! I just love it, Leslie!
It’s great to see Stella again; I have missed her!!! As always, this is a wonderful design; very pretty!
Oh my gosh….I SO miss your Ruby Tuesday posts! Those were fun times, and I looked forward to every Tuesday when I knew you would have something for us to ogle over. Thanks for the memories!
Wonderful and Refreshing. So glad you decided to go with this lovely stamp and papers for your card.
I remember Ruby Tuesdays! What a beautiful card Leslie! Everything goes together so well.
It was your Ruby Tuesday posts that convinced me I could find uses for patterned paper, and to start my collection, which of course includes some Stella Ruby and much other Basic Grey. I wish I had enough time to stamp every day!
Thank you for all the inspiration, of all kinds!
Oh how beautiful, love this!!!
Leslie, this is beautiful!!! Love the image, your coloring, and the dp choice. You know…I never got any of the Stella Ruby. By the time I wanted it, I think basicgray retired it. It is beautiful paper. Lovely card!!!
Not only the card, but your post is very beautiful! The DP is wonderful, goes so well with this flower stamp! Thank you so much for sharing your art!
And Stella returns…beautiful, Leslie!! I love your pretty perfectly colored flowers too!!
Have a wonderful weekend!!
What a charming card and, as always, Stella assists with that so very well! Let’s not dwell too much on “how does one ever use up all that paper?” I’m mortified about the amount in my collection. At least you use yours on a fairly regular basis! Linda
Gorgeous! I loved Ruby Tuesdays. It was so nice to see those lovely cards in one of my favourite collections, with such a great song running through my head. A very mixed-media blogging experience. It’s nice to see it back, even for a short engagement. (Here’s where you picture me standing, clapping and calling, “Encore! Encore!”)
Hmmm.. Just posted about the Ruby Tuesday thing, and how much I liked it. Then I thought that I should post again and say how much I enjoy any and all posts, whenever they are. I wouldn’t want your blogging and/or themed posts to turn into a chore, or a sense of obligation. If Ruby comes back to join us, don’t turn her away, but don’t force her to come back! I will just say, “Ruby, thanks for the good times. It made it worth getting through the Mondays!”
Hi Leslie. Love your card. It’s funny how you can get so attached to particular DP collections! I also love Basic Grey, especially their Sugared Line. It’s great how you’ve done so much with Stella. Very classy!
hugs
Jennifer
Who could forget Stella?! I can’t believe you still have paper left!
Wow! You certainly have gotten your money’s worth out of Stella! I love that paper too! Your card looks awesome!!
I just love Stella! I remember those days! They were fun! I think Stella is a classic keeper. I’m thinking of all the unused paper packs I haven’t even opened yet and…oh, the very thought. I’m glad your Stella has been put to use so well. Great card as usual with oh so soothing colors!!!
I always love what you create with Stella!! I’m glad you two have been reunited! This card is just beautiful!
Oh yes I remember the Stella Ruby posts! I loved them, but was never able to find the papers here in Canada. Just as well since I’ve stocked up on plenty of other since. Beautiful card, beautiful image! Hope they’re back for a while!
I forgot about your Ruby Tuesdays. I loved those. Thanks for the beautiful little “retro moment”. It’s such a lovely card. I’ll be watching for more of her in the future.
Oh your story is just wonderful! What a great way to use that admired paper! I need to do that…I have more paper than any person should! I’m sure I am not alone in that statement, but sometimes it really feels that way!
This card is lovely and I love how you used scraps to make the squares-very green of you!
What a great layout for showing off and using our stacks of DP
Love your sweet flower image too. TFS P.S. I still have BG Stella DP in my stack!!!
