Noble Deer

Published by leslierich at 9:30 pm under Cards, Masculine, Stampin' Up! projects

Well, here’s a set that retired a while back and I rushed to purchase it before it was gone for good.  I’ve just now made my first card with it.  I guess you could call me a slow starter.  I needed a masculine birthday card, and this set fit the bill perfectly.  I could have used it many times before, but I was intimidated by the prospect of coloring the deer.  There I go again… just as with the birds, I want the rendition to be accurate.  I had a good model for these deer, though — if the big guy in the foreground were a three point in velvet, he’d look exactly like the garden visitor I found dining on my Lady’s Mantle the other day.

This is two stamps from the set which I put together to make a scene.  I used an old Posh Impressions grass stamp for a little filler, as well.  The manly plaid is from, of all things, my BasicGrey June Bug pad.  The image is watercolored with SU! inks.  I think every other detail is apparent at a glance, and supplies are listed in the recipe, below.

Have a good Monday and a great week!  I’ll be posting daily Wednesday through Saturday so I hope we can get together again then.  I’ve been stamping a lot in my spare time, and staying off the computer in an effort to catch up on a few things.  Consequently, I haven’t been out visiting all the wonderful stamping blogs I find so inspiring.  It’s time to do a little catching up on that now!  See you soon!

Stamps:  Noble Deer (retired Stampin’ Up!), Warmest Regards  Paper:  Always Artichoke, Kraft, watercolor, BasicGrey June Bug designer paper  Ink:  Palette Umber, various SU! inks for watercoloring  Accessories:  Twine, linen thread, Scotch brand foam mounting tape

Really love the deer stamp. And you coloured it beautifully. I often take a look at your blog, and you make such beautiful things. I am so in love with the flourishes stamps, but unfortunately I cannot buy them here in Sweden.
    Hugs,

This is a really beautiful scene you created, Leslie. What a great job of combining those two stamps! This is one of my favorite sets, and I’m glad you finally got around to using it. Although, considering your garden’s problems lately, I could understand if you never wanted to use a deer stamp. Linda

What perfect choices of elements. The plaid sets off the scene so well. It could be the Scottish highlands!

What a lush and tranquil scene! I love the grassy meadow on which you’ve grounded your images and of course your little cross stitches and twine add so much character. I wish I had one inkling of your talent. Just fabulous, Leslie!

Lucky me! I got to see this beautifully colored scene IRL :-) Darn those pesky deer. I went out the other day and my begonia’s had been sniped off for the 1st time…..EVER :-( You never know what a deer is going to sample, dang it!
TFS and I can’t wait to see your next uploads…..

This is a wonderful card, so wish the set wasn’t retired, the colours are perfect. Would look great as a christmas card with them stood in snow Tx

You did an excellent job coloring those deer!

Beautiful, and very realistic! We found a cure for plant-loving deer–a 7-foot fence! We have enjoyed an abundance of color since! Stop by my blog when you get a chance and check out the card I made with the same deer stamp.
Love the plaid you used, too.

Incredible! I love the little twine x’es. Don’t you hate when the deer eat your flowers! But then I really like the deer, so it’s a give and take situation.

Superb!! What a peaceful and serene scene you’ve colored here my friend!! I can always be assured of seeing something totally inspiring on every visit to your blog!

Leslie, This is a wonderful card. That set is just so beautiful. I borrowed my moms recently and made a card for a friend who needed a masculine birthday card. When I saw your gorgeous card I realized I hadn’t posted mine yet. You can find it here:
