Rubbernecker

Published by leslierich under Baby, Cards, Rubbernecker

Hello again!  Today I’m happy to share the news that I’ve just become a guest designer for the Rubbernecker Stamp Company.  You know what that means — bunches of new images to work with!  They told me to go take a look and pick out some stamps to get me started.  I was like a kid in a candy store!  This is my first rubbernecker card:

Mar08 Bear in Carriage

I’ve been making a lot of baby cards lately so when I saw this Bear in Carriage stamp I figured it was right up my alley.  He’s so darn cute peeking over the edge of his carriage.  I watercolored the image with inks on watercolor paper and used ProvoCraft designer papers in the background.  The itty bitty Primas on the lace are dotted with Ranger Petal Pink Liquid Pearls.  The sentiment is also by Rubbernecker.  I divided it in half and stamped the rest inside the card.  The last two lines read, “The sweet scent of powder, a kiss on the nose”.  Hmmmm…the photo looks slightly out of focus to me, but we’ll just call it baby soft.

Mar08 Baby RattleWhile I was at it I decided to make a second baby card as well.  This one is all baby boy with with the help of DaisyD’s designer papers.  It looks like the blue gingham piece is cut crooked, but it’s just the way the pattern lies.

The ribbon slide is a flying stork carrying a little bundle of joy.  Every once in a while my craft-deprived town will yield a treasure if I look hard enough.  This was in a package of baby-themed ribbon slides I found at Wal-Mart.

That’s it for today!  I’d just like to say I’m honored to be a part of the Rubbernecker team, if only for a little while.  I’m in good company with this very talented group of designers.  But don’t take my word for it — just take a look at any of these folks’ work and you’ll see what I mean:

There’s another guest designer starting along with me, but I don’t know if she’s posted yet, so I’ll wait and see…  Trust me, she’s amazing!  Have a wonderful day!

Heirloom

Mar08 Heirloom

Hello!  Is the weekend really over already?  So soon?  Gosh, I was just getting started!  On to another work week…

I’ve finished up my weekend with a few things to share with you this week.  I was asked to make a card for a baby girl so I thought I’d make two different cards rather opposite in style.  I haven’t made the other one yet.  Who knows…maybe I’ll make more than two because I sure enjoyed making this one.  Vintage feminine is one of my favorite stamping styles.  However, I also made something bright and perky and fun this weekend and I had a great time with it.  Oh, heck, I just love to stamp.  It all makes me feel good!

I used two designer papers I’ve been saving just for this card.  Honestly, when I bought these papers I pictured this card exactly.  I always planned to make it whether I needed it or not.  It just happens that I need it now.  The papers are both My Mind’s Eye – the upper panel is Tres Jolie and the lower border is Signature Life.  The dress is from the very beautiful but retired Stampin’ Up! set, Buggies & Booties.  It’s stamped in Timber Brown Stazon on 90# hot press watercolor paper (very smooth) and watercolored with reinkers.  The dress is a very dilute Regal Rose with Blush Blossom trim.  I mounted it on Blush Blossom textured cardstock.

I usually like to add some sort of sentiment or words to the card front but I didn’t want to detract from the delicate papers and image, so I stamped “baby” in Regal Rose vertically alongside the main image mat — just a faint suggestion.  The rest of the sentiment is inside the card and reads “You are the miracle of all creation” – another retired SU! set called That’s Nice. The two snaps match the Sage Shadow middle panel as well as the little bit of sage in the designer paper.  I smudged them with Timber Brown Stazon for aging.  The ribbon is SU!’s pink taffeta.

I think that about sums it up.  Ingredients are listed in their entirety below.  I have to dash off to other things now.  I hope your week starts off good and gets better as it goes along.  See you again soon!

Stamps:  Buggies & Booties, That’s Nice

Paper:  Close to Cocoa, Sage Shadow, Blush Blossom textured, 90# hot press watercolor, My Mind’s Eye designer paper

Ink:  Close to Cocoa, Creamy Caramel, Blush Blossom, Regal Rose, Timber Brown Stazon

Accessories:  Ribbon, Making Memories snaps, Scotch brand dimensional mounting tape

A Whole Lotta Stampin’ Goin’ On

Baby Shower InvitesI’d like to take a moment to share a project that’s been occupying my stamping thoughts for quite a little while.  These are a few of the 50 baby shower invitations I’m in the process of making for a friend.  Production stamping is not my strong suit but she asked me so nicely…

This is the same design I used for my Valentine Gift Card Holder which I explained in a recent post, minus the inside pocket.  I traveled a winding road to arrive at this destination.  I was so concerned about providing her with something that would make her not regret she’d asked me yet would also be achievable for me.  I know I overthink things too much but it seemed like there was so much to consider from her perspective and mine.  I began by reminding her of how many very cute invitations she could get at Wal-Mart for a fraction of the cost she was willing to pay me.  This gave her the briefest, almost imperceptible pause but she stood firm and so I set to work.

I hoped, with this fold design, to minimize layering and give the card some “fun appeal”.  I used Hammermill 110 lb. cardstock — a nice, bright white — not the best for stamping but it worked quite well with the soft look of this wheel in Barely Banana.  I wheeled the flap of each envelope, too.  That’s 200 passes with the wheel (yikes!) but still quicker, easier and more cost effective than designer paper.  All the other stamping is done on Whisper White, but the layers underneath are Hammermill.  I’ve made panels of Whisper White stamped with the “date, time, place, rsvp” to line the inside of the card, and stamped the inside of the scalloped border with pink polka dots (SU!’s Itty Bitty Backgrounds).  To add a touch of color to the layers I ran the Pretty In Pink pad along the edges of the pieces which will be on the card front.  I also stamped the back with the Stampin’ Up! copyright and initialed every card.  Finally, I cut card-size panels of Hammermill for placing over each card front in their envelopes for protection in the mail.

All tolled, in addition to the 200 passes with the wheel, I’ve cut 350 pieces of cardstock and designer paper, stamped 350 times, punched 250 times, tied 200 ribbons and cords, made 100 score lines, trimmed 50 scalloped borders, colored 50 images, applied 50 lengths of Sticky Strip, and signed my initials 50 times.  Whew!

Baby Invites WaitingI have these pieces yet to assemble and my personal goal was to have them done by the end of this month.  I believe now I’ll deliver them on Monday.  This hasn’t been an arduous or unpleasant task but I’m simply not good at putting everything else aside in favor of one project.  The rest of it will move along quickly, I think.  Still, I’ll have to focus…

I’ll be back with more stamping this week so I’ll see you again soon!  Have a wonderful day!

Stamps:  Greetings Galore, Hugs & Wishes, Leaves & Swirls jumbo wheel, Sweet Spots (all Stampin’ Up)

Paper:  Hammermill white cardstock, Whisper White, Me & My Big Ideas designer paper

Ink:  Pretty in Pink, Basic Black, Barely Banana, markers for coloring

Accessories:  Ribbon, scallop circle punch, 1/2″ circle punch, 1/16″ hand held punch, double rectangle punch, Fiskars scallop edge scissors, Sticky Strip, Scotch brand dimensional mounting tape

Coochie Coo

Coochie CooI sure wasn’t going to post another baby card today but everything else I was trying to do was not coming together as planned.  I’m hoping I can pull it out of the bag sometime tomorrow night.

This is a simple card I made with Stampin’ Up!’s Greetings Galore and Provo Craft designer paper.  The main image mat is wheeled both ways with the Rough Texture wheel in Barely Banana for the look of a woven blanket.  The words, which I love for a baby card, are from A Muse.  I dotted the baby’s sleeper with the white gel pen.

I’m sorry to be so brief but I’ve run out of time if I want to get any sleep tonight (I’m posting this on Monday night).  The rest of the details are listed below.  Have a wonderful day!

Stamps:  Greetings Galore, Amuse words, Hero Arts zig zag stitch

Paper:  Sage Shadow, Barely Banana, Whisper White, Provo Craft designer paper

Ink:  Timber Brown Stazon, Barely Banana, markers for coloring

Accessories:  Offray ribbon, scallop circle punch, mat pack and piercer, Scotch brand double sided dimensional tape

Soft & Sweet

I’m almost done with the baby card posts.  This is another one of three I made last weekend and I haven’t stamped another single thing since.  This working girl has been a bit of a vegetable in the evenings all week — a potato, that is (couch variety).  There are all kinds of ideas simmering in my little potato head and hopefully I’ll be able to serve them up within the next few days.

Baby Soft and Sweet

This card uses some of my new Daisyd’s baby papers.  It makes me think of receiving blankets showing the wear of many washings, passed down from one baby to the next.  The satin ribbon is similar to some I used on gowns I sewed for my own baby boy a long time ago.  The card base is Bordering Blue, a color that doesn’t get a lot of love but it’s one I’ve always liked for a soft, subtle look (even though it’s in the Rich Regals group).

I colored the Teddy bear with my Creamy Caramel marker and dabbed in a little Pretty in Pink, which may not be very evident at first glance but it did alter his look somewhat.  I shaded the edges of the main image panel with Barely Banana and a sponge dauber.  There’s a little Banana shading sponged close to his lower body, too.  Other shading under and around him is done with markers and a blender pen.  The scalloped circle is Whisper White that I sponged with Banana for a look that’s a little softer than the Barely Banana cardstock.

I hope you have a nice weekend ahead of you.  It looks like mine will be pretty busy but I’m sure I’ll fit in a little stamping, too.  Enjoy!

Stamps:  Bundle of Joy (recently retired Stampin’ Up!)

Paper:  Bordering Blue, Barely Banana, Whisper White, Daisyd’s deisigner paper

Ink:  Timber Brown Stazon, Barely Banana, markers for coloring

Accessories:  Offray ribbon, eyelets, slot punch, ticket corner punch, scallop circle punch, 3/4″ and 1 3/8″ circle punches, Scotch brand dimensional mounting tape

Baby in the Wild

Hello!  I think I’ve almost had enough of baby cards for a while.  I’m ready to do some pretty stamping, I think.  I’ll try to have something like that to share soon, but for now, all I have is a baby card.  I have a couple more that I haven’t posted yet, too, and I’d sure like to thank you for bearing with me.  I was planning to post them all at once and be done with it but I’m not sure when I’m going to find time to stamp this week.  So…here we go, one at a time…

Baby in the Wild

This baby boy might be big but he’s still in diapers and it takes a big pin to hold a diaper on a baby elephant (if you can imagine…).  I used the elephant’s bottom as a guide to make his diaper.  I folded back a flap, pinned it and glued the diaper in place.  I sponged the edges of the diaper, including the edge of the fold, for definition.  His happy little environment was created with images from Stampin’ Up!’s retired Sheltering Tree.  The colors and patterns in these Chatterbox papers seemed to go nicely with the scene, even though they’re not baby papers.  It’s just a simple and fun card which I think the mom to be will like because she’s kind of a character.

I’ll try to be back soon with more stamping.  I can’t guarantee it won’t be another baby card, though.  I’m still waiting for my first order from the new SU! catalog to arrive.  I just got a shipping notice today.  Gosh, I need more stamps, don’t I?  Take care, and have a wonderful day!

Stamps:  Wild About You, Sheltering Tree (both SU!), Hero Arts “New Baby!”

Paper:  Certainly Celery, Bashful Blue, Whisper White, Chatterbox designer paper

Ink:  Bashful Blue, Apricot Appeal, Close to Cocoa, Pumpkin Pie, Certainly Celery

Accessories:  Celery ribbon and brads, slot punch, mini diaper pin

Antique Buggy

Antique BuggyHello, friends!  I’m sharing another baby card today.  This one uses Stampin’ Up!’s Buggies & Booties which I picked up last year (?) when it was on the retiring list.  It’s one of my favorites because I love most anything vintage.  I’m so cutting edge, aren’t I, using so many retired or old stamps?  I really do have lots of new-to-me-stamps that need to see their first ink, but I felt a great deal of pleasure in using this particular stamp for the first time.  It seems as though whenever I need a baby card, the mom to be doesn’t strike me as being the vintage-favoring type.  Consequently,  I haven’t used this set much.  It may turn out that I’m the only one who likes this card.  If so, I’ll give it to her myself.

I stamped it in Bravo Burgundy on Very Vanilla cardstock, colored it with chalks and sprayed with matte sealer.  As an afterthought I decided to do some direct to paper distressing with ink on the edges of the panels.  Since I’d already sprayed it I used Timber Brown Stazon because it worked better on the sealed surface.  I just scraped the edge of the pad on the edges of all the panels.  At first glance the panels almost appear to be torn but it’s just the ink.  I like the effect — much different from the sponging I usually do.

The paper in the background is something old and blue (circa 2001) and something new (ish) from My Mind’s Eye Signature Life series.  They’re not very baby-looking, but they have a nice vintage feel to them.  The ribbon is SU!’s kraft taffeta.

I’m going to cozy up with a movie and cookies now.  This was my first day back at work after vacation and I’m feeling the need for cookies.  I hope you’ve enjoyed this early part of your journey into 2008.  I’ll see you again soon!

Stamps:  Buggies & Booties

Paper:  Vintage Violet, Very Vanilla, Naturals Ivory, old Keeping Memories alive blue and MME Signature Life designer papers

Ink:  Bravo Burgundy, Timber Brown Stazon

Accessories:  Stampin’ Pastels (soft chalks) ribbon, Scotch brand dimensional mounting tape, mat pack and piercer

Back to Baby

Published by leslierich under Baby, Cards

WAY Happy For YouToday I’m sharing another one of those many baby cards I’ll be making.  This one is intended for a baby boy.  I borrowed this set from my friend, Nancy (thanks, Nancy!).  I should be able to get a couple more cards from this set without being too repetitious.

I found another piece in my scrap drawer that I was able to use.  Gee, this Cuttlebugged background is from Nancy, too.  I don’t have this folder but one day we exchanged a few backgrounds and this one sure came in handy today.  I rubbed my So Saffron pad over the cream colored cardstock and sponged the edges with Creamy Caramel.

The lion was masked so I could stamp the giraffe behind him.  The lion’s mane and head were stamped again separately and the head is popped up on dimensional tape.  I do like these colors for a baby boy card.  When I used Caramel and Saffron for the critters I decided to do the whole card in those colors with just a touch of blue.  I believe my next baby card will be specifically designed around some of my new papers.  After all, I made a special trip just to shop for them.

Thank you for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Stamps:  Wild About You, Hero Arts sentiment, Posh Impressions grass sprig

Paper:  Creamy Caramel, generic cream cardstock, Whisper White, Spring Showers designer paper (retired Stampin’ Up!)

Ink:  So Saffron, Creamy Caramel, Close to Cocoa, Timber Brown Stazon (sentiment)

Accessories:  Ribbon, eyelets, slot punch, Scotch brand dimensional mounting tape

Another Baby Card

Baby RattleHello, again!  Yes, another baby card.  This one is pretty simple, though not as simple as I had originally planned.  I was just going to do the Cuttlebug embossing and tie the ribbon across.  I’ve seen lots of cards done that way and I absolutely love them.  Why, then, did mine not look right to me?  I’m definitely simple card challenged.

If I’m going to do as many different baby cards as I plan on I’ll need to stretch my resources a bit.  I thought I’d do a little stretching at the beginning rather than wait until I’d made umpteen baby cards and no longer felt the urge to stretch.  I don’t have a large collection of baby stamps, but every once in a while another one pops into my memory.  I may find I have more possibilities than I realize.  It’ll be interesting to see how this develops.

This rattle is from Stampin’ Up!’s Baby Rattle wheel, now retired.  I colored one rattle on the wheel with my Not Quite Navy marker, wheeled it, then cut it out, eliminating the bow.  It’s too bad it’s not apparent in the photo, but I coated the rattle with Glassy Glaze (ultra-thick embossing powder).  It’s very glossy in real life.  If you look closely you may see it’s hanging from a mini-diaper pin that’s attached to the ribbon.

The paper I Cuttlebugged is Wild Asparagus.  I’ve used parts of this sheet many times on various cards and I still have some left.  I’ve certainly learned not to hoard my DP.  However, if you looked in my paper cupboard you’d be skeptical about that statement.  I traced over the embossed words with my Apricot Appeal marker.  It came out darker than I expected but I’m okay with it.

Thanks for checking in with me today!  I hope you’re having a wonderful post-Christmas week!

Stamps:  Baby Rattle wheel (retired Stampin’ Up!)

Paper:  Soft Sky, Whisper White, Wild Asparagus designer paper

Ink:  Versamark for embossing rattle, markers in Not Quite Navy and Apricot Appeal

Accessories:  Ribbon, Cuttlebug Baby embossing folder, mini diaper pin

Expecting

Published by leslierich under Baby, Cards, Flourishes

Baby Yet to BeWe have two expectant mothers in the lab where I work and many of my coworkers are asking for baby cards.  Since this activity is all contained within the same circle of friends all the cards will need to be different.  I love baby cards so I’m happy to oblige, but I’m thinking this will be quite a challenge.  Were I to accomodate everyone, I’d be looking at making 40 cards.  I’ll do the best I can without turning it into an ordeal.  At this point the challenge sounds like fun, but when the fun wears thin I’ll simply stop.  It’s first come, first served!

One mom to be knows she’s having a boy, the other has chosen to be surprised.  That eliminates pink from my color choices (boo hoo) but there are no holds barred when it comes to bulk and weight because all cards will be hand delivered (hooray!).  So, gee, why is this card so lightweight and non-bulky?  Well, it just felt like the right thing at the time.

There’s a baby shower in January for the mom who’s having a boy.  I’ve been wanting to stamp with my new Love Nest set from Flourishes and the more I thought about this image the more perfect it seemed.  After all, she hasn’t had the baby yet…she’s just waiting…interminably it seems to her, I’m sure.  I know in my final month I had nothing to do but wait.  The baby’s room was ready, my bag was packed, his first little outfit he’d wear home from the hospital tucked inside — so tiny, soft and sweet, a little sack gown I’d sewn myself.  I’d sit in his room and just look around, picturing him on his changing table or tucked into the cradle his dad made for him.  Oh, dear…I’m choking myself up.  My goodness, that baby was loved.  He still is.  It sure seems like yesterday.

My expectant bird mom is made up of four different images.  I stamped the bird first, then masked her (very easy because of the simple line drawing), and stamped the cage and nest (one stamp) in place.  The eggs were stamped next, no masking required.  The bow was stamped separately in Blue Bayou, cut out and glued on.  The coloring was done with a combination of markers, chalks and blender pen.  I love chalks best for a very soft, blended look.  The bird was done with Not Quite Navy, gray and black chalks.  Once I put my color in the general area I smoothed it out with a light touch of the blender pen.  I don’t always use a blender pen with chalks, but with such a small image its fine brush tip was helpful.  The sentiment I used is from Stampin’ Up!’s Love Matters (retired).  There are several great sentiments with the Love Nest set, including “We’re Expecting”, but for my purposes this one was ideal.  You can never have too many sentiments.

Just a note:  I started to stamp the eggs in Soft Sky and turn the bird into a Robin when I suddenly thought, “what would a Robin be doing in a birdcage?”.  I think this bird looks more finch-like but I was thinking “parakeet” so…I looked up a blue parakeet and its eggs on the internet and found that the eggs are a rather dull beige color.  Not much fun.  I stamped them in So Saffron.  I know it’s a little over the top to bother with all that realism but, hey, I’m on vacation.

I made a special trip to the scrapbook store for boy and gender neutral baby papers.  I needed them like a hole in the head, I’m sure, but, gosh, it was fun.  Of course, you know I picked up a few other things while I was there, too.  Hmmmmm…where are those baby papers?  They certainly aren’t on this card.  You know how it is when you get a picture in your head…  When I decided upon this image I pictured it with a lot of white around it — white with maybe just a soft petite pattern.  Naturally, that led me directly to my retired Stampin’ Up! Petite Patterns.  I’ve always loved these delicate tiny leaves and they seemed perfect for what I had in mind.  I stamped them in one of the softest colors I know — River Rock.

Well, time to wrap up this long post.  I’m going to go read now.  I’m not sure what I’ll stamp next.  I know I need to do a lot more baby cards but I’ve got some other cards that need making, too.  We’ll see.  I enjoyed our visit today.  Gosh, I love being on vacation!  I could so get used to this!  See you soon!

Stamps:  Love Nest by Flourishes, Love Matters and Petite Patterns by Stampin’ Up! (both retired)

Paper:  Soft Sky, Whisper White

Ink:  Basic Black, River Rock, Blue Bayou, So Saffron, markers:  Creamy Caramel, Not Quite Navy

Accessories:  Soft chalks (Stampin’ Pastels by SU!), Fiskars scallop scissors, eyelets, ticket corner punch.  Notice there’s no ribbon?  Yikes!  Since I had a paper bow, I didn’t feel right about using cloth ribbon…just one of those little things…
